It can be overwhelming not to be living a life that feels truly yours, leading to in anxiety, depression, and sadness.
This can result in a constant cycle of thoughts or actions that can be hurtful for you. You may be feeling empty, lost, alone, and wishing to feel differently in your life. I understand that being in such a painful place can be confusing and conflicting, leaving us feeling that we just exist in our lives.
I'm here to help you with those feelings.
Depending on your hopes and needs, we can work together over a defined period or for however long you require.
Whatever your focus, therapy can help you:
Feel less anxious and less stressed
Cultivate better personal and work life relationships
Improve your confidence and assertiveness...
.... and in turn, feel happier within yourself.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and acceptance toward you.
I offer to accompany you on a very personal and possibly difficult journey with the knowledge, ability, and professionalism that enables me to hold a safe therapeutic space for you to explore safely without the fear of judgment or rejection.
Exploring how we genuinely feel and think about our experiences can give us great insight into ourselves, our behaviours, and our responses to the unpredictable nature of life. As a person-centred counsellor, I provide a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic space. Always working at your pace, I can support you in exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way you are comfortable with.
What is a 'person-centred' approach in therapy?
Here are a couple of good resources on 'person-centred' counselling which is my core approach.
We can, with your agreement, also incorporate other approaches in to the work as and when it may be appropriate/beneficial (such as CBT, DBT, Mindfulness)

Therapy with me is...
...experiencing a safe, confidential, non-judgmental, supportive environment.
...a time when nothing is expected of you.
...when you can talk freely about anything.
...me offering you the emotional support you need.
...not me talking about myself or me giving my opinions. This time is for you and about you.
...not me pushing you to talk about unbearable things.
I know that taking such a step in to therapy can be challenging, so I am here to support you.
Hello, I'm Robert. Welcome to my website.
I am a qualified, experienced psychotherapist and counsellor.
I am available for in-person sessions at my private practice in central Harpenden, Hertfordshire.
Online sessions are also available.
I offer a safe, confidential, warm and calm space to talk about what is troubling you, without judgement, so that you feel heard, accepted and valued. We are all unique, so I am committed to working with you holistically, as a person with your own life story.
I see the therapeutic process as being a collaborative relationship in which we are equal partners. Together, we explore and reflect on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours as you process your experience. With new awareness and understanding come new perspectives and options, leading to healing, change and growth.
Before training to become a counsellor, I worked for over 20 years in the city of London as an owner/director of a successful group of companies.
I am fully qualified and insured Therapist.
I attained my BACP Accredited Degree qualification from CONEL/Middlesex University.
